The CORE Institute Foot and Ankle Advanced Reconstruction Fellowship

Fellowship Description: 

The CORE Institute Foot and Ankle Advanced Reconstruction Fellowship Program spans 12 months, focusing on the comprehensive aspects of foot and ankle surgery, including operative, clinical, and business dimensions.  The program is recognized by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).   

Fellows collaborate with fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeons, gaining expertise in primary and revision total ankle arthroplasty, advanced forefoot and hindfoot reconstruction, trauma, arthroscopy, external fixation, and Charcot reconstruction. The program provides insights into the day-to-day operations of a dynamic orthopedic practice in the U.S. Emphasis is placed on enhanced clinical decision-making and academics, contributing to a well-rounded education. Fellows have diverse research opportunities, with a requirement for two mandatory publications. This fellowship is crafted to elevate exposure to the highest level of foot and ankle surgery.

S.T.A.R. Total Ankle Replacements and Minimally Invasive Surgical Correction 

Melissa Galli, DPM, FACFAS 

Fellowship: Coordinated Health 

Residency: The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center 

Dual fellowship-trained reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon specializing in sports medicine. 

She is certified in various total ankle replacement systems. 

Jeffrey Holmes, DPM 

Fellowship: The CORE Institute 

Residency: Inova Fairfax Hospital 

Emphasis on total ankle replacements, trauma, forefoot/rearfoot reconstruction, and limb salvage. 

– certification for total ankle replacements in the STAR, Inbone/Infinity, and Zimmer systems– S.T.A.R. 

Tharesh Udupa, DPM  

Residency: Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital  

– Specialized in foot and ankle injuries, bunions, neuromas, running injuries, toe deformities, and non-surgical pediatric foot and ankle issues.   

– Diabetic foot care, arthritic foot care, and wound healing.

Phoenix is well located for travel, with a large, centrally located airport that serves as a hub for multiple airlines, and is just a few hours’ drive from many scenic destinations including Sedona, Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Moab, Monuments Valley, Antelope Canyon and more. 

 Applicants must have completed a residency program in the Unites States or Canada, be board-eligible or board-certified, and be able to obtain an Arizona state medical license before the fellowship begins.
